Robinson Waived to Clear Way for Douglas

Staff and Wire Reports

The Clippers thought they had found a starting point guard when they signed free agent James Robinson to a five-year, $10.5-million contract in the summer of 1997.

But Robinson, who came to the Clippers after one season with Minnesota and three seasons with Portland, was waived Thursday to make room for Sherman Douglas. Douglas, on the injured list because of a sprained left groin, was activated and is expected to play tonight.

Robinson, 28, averaged 7.6 points in 14 games this season, 7.7 in 70 last season.
