Weimar Moments

Your article on Weimar, Germany (“Poetry and Sausage in Weimar,” Feb. 28), was of special interest to me since I grew up not too far from Weimar and visited the city last fall.
This region not only provided fertile ground to literature, philosophy and music, but also spawned one of the Western world’s major religious realignments by way of Martin Luther. At Wartburg castle in nearby Eisenach, he created the first German-language version of the New Testament.
A German native asked us: “What are you doing here? Americans never visit here. They all go to Bavaria.” If true, they are missing an opportunity.
