Police officers will be raising money for the Special Olympics on April 1 as part of Red Lobster’s “Cops and Lobsters” program. Members of the Seal Beach Police Officers Assn. will be helping servers at the restaurant chain’s Pacific Coast Highway/5th Street location. They will then leave envelopes for diners asking them to contribute to Special Olympics. Also, some city dignitaries, including Councilmen Shawn Boyd and Bill Doane, will be thrown in a “jail” at the restaurant for half an hour at a time while they sit down with a telephone to solicit pledges for their release.
The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. Last year’s event raised $3,500 in Seal Beach and $250,000 nationally, police association member Steve Staley said.
