Rogue Cops

* Earl Ofari Hutchinson (“Feds See No Evil When It Comes to Rogue Cops,” Commentary, March 17) is too nice. It’s not that people see no evil. Rather, they don’t mind some evil practiced on some semi-citizens. Excessive force in dealing with “them” is as American as apple pie.
Police have done the civic will ever since they were called ‘rollers (patrollers). Having your practices or personnel go unexamined is partial compensation for doing society’s desires.
Police work is dangerous--as dangerous as being a minority member. Nevertheless, more firemen than policemen die in the line of duty every year. Saying “I feared for my life” wearing a uniform or carrying a badge justifies any and every “official” act. Period.
