Firefighter Family Lasts Into Retirement

Re the very nice article by Scott Martelle (“Ready--and Waiting,” March 7):
Be aware that the “family” extends far beyond the fire station. The retired firefighters of L.A. County have a very active association with a newsletter, a Web site, a growing list of e-mail correspondents, yearly picnics and monthly breakfasts throughout the state. Our friendships are close and last for a lifetime. Thanks for a really nice inside story about firefighters.
