Don’t Expect Holyfield to Admit Defeat

Steve Springer, give me a break! [“Holyfield Can Go Out a Winner if He Will Only Admit He Lost,” March 20]. How many times have you seen an athlete, coach or manager ask the referee or umpire to change a call that worked in their or their team’s favor? It’s part of the sport.
Holyfield didn’t rig the fight or make the judges call it poorly. Don King should admit that he fixed it and/or the judges should admit that it was fixed. Holyfield did nothing wrong. He just caught a break; Lewis didn’t. And Don King is being investigated for it.

Just because the judging was lousy, now everybody wants Holyfield to admit that he lost the fight.
Yeah, right! In the same spirit that Vinny Testaverde said, “Hey ref, I really didn’t score,” and Babe Ruth said, “I really wasn’t pointing at the flagpole.”

Did Don King have anything to do with “Shakespeare in Love” getting a decision over “Saving Private Ryan”? Was the view of all the voting members obstructed? Could Randy Harvey investigate how many phone calls were made from Price Waterhouse to Miramax in the last month? How does Spielberg get a rematch?
