Fidel Castro

* Thank you for your March 19 editorial regarding Fidel Castro’s abuses. Forty years of a cruel dictatorship is too long for any country! And it is sad to have so many people praise him yet, as Jose Saramago, recent Nobel Prize winner, did.
Vladimiro Roca is in jail. His late father, Blas Roca Calderio, had been among the leaders of the Cuban Communist Party, along with Juan Marinello, Salvador Garcia Aguero, Lazaro Pena and many leaders of the Workers Party and members of the long-dissolved Cuban Congress. I remember when in a discussion about relations with Russia, Blas Roca said: “Everyone in the Soviet Union may freely express a critical opinion.”
“Only once, Mr. Roca, only one time,” answered Orestes Ferrara, a Cuban-Italian congressman.
Dictatorships are not to be praised, be they Peron’s, Salazar’s, Stalin’s, Hitler’s, Franco’s, Batista’s, Pinochet’s or Castro’s, to name a few!
