City Council members recently asked the Housing and Community Development advisory committee if more federal funds can be allocated to the city’s youth programs.
“We’re sending a lot of money to worthy organizations outside the city,” Councilman Larry Crandall said. “I’d like to see if we can address local children first.”
The funds, part of the federal Community Development Block Grant program, will pay for $460,000 in city programs, including $65,250 for 11 public service agencies that serve Fountain Valley residents. The council approved the 1999-2000 Action Plan, which must be submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development by May 15.
