Choreographer Eliot Feld’s new company, Ballet Tech, will make its first West Coast appearance in October to kick off the 1999-2000 Contemporary Dance Series sponsored by the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
The company, created in 1997 after the distinguished American choreographer dissolved his long-term Feld Ballet company, will appear Oct. 22-23 at the Irvine theater with a program to be announced.
Ballet Tech is made up of graduates of Feld’s tuition-free dance school. Dancers are recruited from the New York City public school system.
Ballet Tech also plans to be in residence for a week with the students of St. Joseph Ballet, Beth Burns’ Santa Ana-based company created for inner-city children.
The series will continue:
* Feb. 1-2: La La Human Steps: U.S. premiere of company director Edouard Lock’s “Salt” (Exauce). This program will mark the Canadian company’s first West Coast engagement in five years.
* Feb. 25-26: Parsons Dance Company: World premiere, commissioned by the Irvine Barclay, to be announced.
* May 4-5: Doug Varone and Dancers: The New York company will make its first Los Angeles-area engagement with a program to be announced.
All performances will be at 8 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive. Series tickets, $116, go on sale June 1. Single tickets, at prices to be announced, will go on sale in September. Information: (949) 854-4646.
