A 5-year-old boy remained in critical condition Saturday after being struck while riding his bicycle near his home, authorities said.
Trevor Tonet was hit about 5 p.m. Friday when he rode his bike from an alley into the path of a car in the 3300 block of Preble Avenue, Ventura Police Cpl. John Turner said.
The boy and the car’s driver, Michelle Myers, 35, of Ventura, could not see each other because a dumpster on the curb blocked their view, Turner said.
The impact threw the boy several feet. Although he was wearing a helmet, he sustained major injuries to his face, Turner said.
The boy was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he underwent emergency surgery. Later he was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, which has a pediatric intensive care unit.
