Former Nazi Soldier Forced to Leave U.S.

From Associated Press

An Indiana man who admitted serving in a Nazi-sponsored killing battalion during World War II left the United States permanently Wednesday for Lithuania, the Justice Department announced.

Kazys Ciurinskas, 81, left the country by plane from Chicago, the department said. On April 15, an immigration judge in Chicago had ordered Ciurinskas removed from this country based on his admitted participation in Nazi-sponsored persecution.

The removal order was part of a settlement agreement in which Ciurinskas admitted he was an armed member of the 2nd Lithuanian Schutzmannschaft Battalion.
