A man whose car had stopped on the Ventura Freeway was killed early Saturday after he tried to summon help and was struck by a tractor-trailer while returning to the vehicle, authorities said.
The Rowland Heights man left his car at the center divider and ran across the freeway to the right shoulder, just east of Woodman Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane said.
He was running back to his car after unsuccessfully trying to flag down help when he was struck and killed about 3:20 a.m. The truck driver was not cited, authorities said.
The circumstances of the accident are being investigated, including why the car had stopped, Faciane said.
The man’s name was not released, pending notification of family.
