Six area art students will receive scholarships from the Ventura County Museum of History and Art at a June 3 reception, the museum announced.
The winning students were chosen from 22 applicants on the basis of an essay, examples of their artwork and recommendations from teachers.
Those who will get $1,000 scholarships are Lori McMichael of Thousand Oaks, a Moorpark College student who will attend Rhode Island School of Design this fall, and Cindy SooHoo, a senior at Thousand Oaks High School who will enroll at UCLA’s School of Arts and Architecture.
Scholarships for $750 will be given to Leslie Lloyd of Ventura, who will continue her studies at Ventura College, and Kay Zetlmaier, an art teacher at Ventura High School who is pursuing a master’s degree in fine art at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Ian Ramsay, a senior at Buena High School, will receive $500 toward his expenses at Rhode Island School of Design. Also, Cecilia Marella, a first-grade student at Thelma Bedell School in Santa Paula, will receive $50 to help her continue her art lessons.
The scholarships are funded by the Bonita McFarland Trust, which sponsors art exhibitions, art purchases and art education at the museum.
