The City Council recently gave unanimous approval to a neighborhood improvement plan for the Coolidge Avenue-Fillmore Way area. The plan includes rebuilding the alleys in concrete, installing a traffic signal at Baker Street and Coolidge Avenue, improving Baker Street parkways with landscaping and irrigation, improving lighting on triplexes and garages, and adopting a uniform paint palette for the building exteriors. Some council members, however, criticized an idea to replace ivy on a street median with grass because children might play there. The council members said they didn’t think children should be encouraged to play in the middle of the street.
