DANA POINT

While the dreaded red fire ant has people across Orange County on the lookout, City Manager John Bahorski said the destructive insect hasn’t made its presence known in Dana Point despite a recent false alarm.
Bahorski said state officials warned him several weeks ago that the city may already be infested, but repeated searches for the fire ant were fruitless.
“We went out and found there was none,” he said. “We recently had the folks out again and they couldn’t locate the fire ant mound either. At this point there’s no reason to believe there’s ant infestation on public property.”
