TORRANCE — A Torrance motorcycle police officer shot and killed a driver who allegedly tried to back over him after a car chase across three cities, police said.
The incident began Wednesday night when police received a call about a motorist driving erratically through a major intersection in Redondo Beach.
Police said a motorcycle officer saw the vehicle and chased it but that the driver ignored the officer’s attempts to pull him over and continued driving erratically.
The chase continued into the city of Lomita, where the driver stopped at an intersection, then backed up and ran over the motorcycle, police said. The officer shot the driver, who was pronounced dead at Harbor UCLA Medical Center.
