Parking permits that allow the holder to use city-owned parking lots and metered spaces will now be valid for 12 months after purchase instead of expiring at the end of the calendar year.
The City Council changed the permit policy last week by adopting an ordinance that extends the life of the city permits to 12 consecutive months from the date of purchase, regardless of when they are bought.
The change, however, does not apply to permits for preferential parking districts, which will continue to expire at the end of the calendar year.
