La Canada 51, South Pasadena 0--Chet Johnson-Blasucci ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns in 11 carries and the Spartans assured themselves of third place and a Division X playoff berth with one of the biggest victories in school history at South Pasadena.
La Canada out-gained the Tigers, 443-147, with South Pasadena gaining 64 yards on its final drive against the Spartans’ second-string defense.
The Spartans (5-5, 3-2) preserved the shutout when Theerasak Poonsombat was stopped for no gain on fourth and one from the La Canada two with 35 seconds to play. It was the only time South Pasadena (2-8, 2-3) crossed midfield.
The Spartans opened the scoring on their first possession, driving 54 yards on five plays, culminating with David Rosales’ three-yard touchdown run, two plays after his 36-yard gain. Rosales ran for 94 yards in eight carries, including a nine-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
The Spartans fell four points short of equaling their largest margin of victory in school history, set Oct. 22 against Blair, 55-0.
