Saddleback Advances in Fullerton Tournament

Semaj Johnson and Ranshaw McAfee each scored 15 points Thursday to help lead Saddleback to an 82-77 victory over Los Angeles Southwest in the first round of the Fullerton men’s basketball tournament.
McAfee had 10 rebounds and Donzell Hayes had 14 points for the Gauchos, who play L.A. Valley at Fullerton in the championship semifinal at 5 p.m. Saddleback won the tournament last year.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Golden West 84, San Diego City 68--Golden West held a slim halftime lead, then opened the second half with a 14-2 run.
The Rustlers (3-2) led by as many as 21 points.
Clif Aska and Rodney Clarke scored 17 points each to lead Golden West.
In the Porterville men’s basketball tournament:
Diablo Valley 60, Cypress 51--William Trammell scored 19 points to help Diablo Valley (2-1) to a first-round victory. Meko Parker had 13 points and Towan Oliver had nine points and 11 rebounds to lead Cypress (2-2), which plays Foothill in the consolation semifinals Friday at 2 p.m. at Porterville.
In the Glendale women’s basketball tournament:
Santa Ana 83, Canyons 60--Atari Parker had 23 points and eight assists and Stephanie Patten had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Santa Ana, which led, 37-21, at halftime. Terrila Cole had nine steals and seven points for the Dons (3-0), ranked No. 4 in Southern California.
Santa Ana plays Ventura, ranked No. 1 in Southern California, tonight at 7 in the semifinals at Glendale.
