The Andy Kaufman biopic soundtrack captures the enigmas of the late comic, with short R.E.M.-composed cues (jazzy lounge to melancholy mood-setters) balancing such silliness as the “Mighty Mouse” theme and a goofy sing-along by Jim Carrey--as both Kaufman and alter ego Tony Clifton--with Michael Stipe. And along with the 1992 song that provided the movie’s title, R.E.M.’s new “The Great Beyond” evokes big dreams and Sisyphean struggles.
