Despite securing 50 tree donations, the Old Settler’s Historical Society’s plans to dedicate a Pioneer Grove of 75 trees in Portola Park cannot start right away.
The city manager’s office and society members will meet today to finalize what steps have to be taken in order to plant the trees at Portola Park. Called the Founders Day Project, the dedication is part of the city’s 75th anniversary Jan. 20.
City officials said the planting cannot start just because the donations are secured. The City Council needs to approve the plans first, said Andrew Lazzaretto, the interim city manager. The meeting starts at 2:30 p.m. in City Hall, 201 E. La Habra Blvd. Information: (562) 905-9700.
