Operation of Airline Halted After Crash

The government said it is suspending operations of financially strapped airline Taesa in the wake of a crash two weeks ago that killed all 18 people on board. Transportation officials said investigators found a “series of anomalies and incidents” at the airline after the crash in Michoacan state and decided to temporarily suspend its operations while they look into airline policies, maintenance, training and other areas. Last weekend, two Taesa planes were forced to turn around because of mechanical problems. Fired flight attendants have claimed that Taesa aircraft, including the DC-9 that crashed, had a history of mechanical problems. Airline officials say no such problems existed.
