President-Elect Presents Cabinet

President-elect Fernando de la Rua presented his Cabinet, his first step in forming an administration since his victory last month. “We are going to initiate new economic growth, generate jobs, guarantee better security and improve education,” he told supporters. Ahead of his scheduled Dec. 10 inauguration, the president-elect is under pressure to swiftly pass an austere budget through a Peronist-dominated congress and control a bloated fiscal deficit. With Argentina’s economy still wobbly from the Brazilian devaluation in January, De la Rua appointed at least four economists to his Cabinet.
