Column Hits 15-Year Mark

“Hot Property” marks its 15th anniversary this month.
Begun by Times Staff Writer Ruth Ryon on Nov. 25, 1984, the first column reported Johnny Carson’s $8.75-million home purchase, at the time the largest sale in Malibu.
Carson still lives in the Point Dume home, and Ryon continues to write the column, which now appears twice weekly in The Times and is distributed to hundreds of newspapers around the world by the Los Angeles Times-Washington Post News Service.
