Matadors Win Is Not Miner Feat

Edniesha Curry scored 21 points and the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team beat the University of Texas-El Paso, 71-49, in a consolation game of the Nevada tournament in Reno, Nev., on Saturday.
Curry, who shot poorly in Friday’s first-round loss to Villanova, made eight of 15 shots.
Northridge forced 29 turnovers and outshot the Miners (1-4) 42% to 25%. Neda Milic added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Matadors.
Central Washington 78, The Master’s 63--Karen Gormley scored 17 points but the Mustangs (6-2) made 28% of their shots and committed 23 turnovers in a Northwest Nazarene tournament loss at Nampa, Idaho.
Moly Scott had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Mustangs finished with a 48-38 rebounding edge.
Meggen Kautzky had 22 points and Kristen Willis added 18 for Central Washington (2-2).
Valley 90, Hancock 60--Christina Magana had 20 points and 10 rebounds to pace four Monarchs in double figures in a nonconference win at Valley.
Freshman Michelle Tompkins, a three-time All-City pick from Fairfax High, scored 18 points on nine-of-15 shooting and Chante Gifford scored 13 points.
Valley (3-2) shot 58% from the field.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal Lutheran 85, Simpson 69--Justin Muth made seven of 10 shots and finished with 17 points in a nonconference game for host Cal Lutheran (2-1).
Snow (Utah) 68, Moorpark 60--Dan Galvanoni had 21 points, making five of 11 three-pointers, for the Raiders (6-2) in a consolation-game loss in the Citrus Tournament.
Sylmar High grad T.K. Reed had six points for Moorpark, who led 32-29 at halftime.
Santa Monica 86, Oxnard 74--Ricky Terrell scored 17 points with seven assists and four steals for Santa Monica (4-1) in an Oxnard tournament semifinal.
Chris Massie had 16 points and 16 rebounds for Oxnard (4-3).
Amir Bar-Netzer, formerly of Taft, added 13 points.
Santa Monica plays L.A. City in the championship game.
L.A. City 79, Antelope Valley 64--Randy Holcomb had 18 points and nine rebounds on eight-of-12 shooting for L.A. City (8-0) in an Oxnard tournament semifinal.
Michael Callaway had 12 points, including three three-point baskets, and five rebounds for Antelope Valley (1-5).
Oxnard plays Antelope Valley at 3 p.m. today for third place.
