Laguna Beach, down a game and trailing Calvary Chapel by five points early in the second game, ran off 10 unanswered points and held on for a 5-15, 15-9, 15-5, 15-12 victory in a state Division IV girls’ volleyball second-round playoff match Saturday at Calvary Chapel.
The second-seeded Artists (24-11) will play Los Angeles Notre Dame Academy Tuesday night.
With Laguna Beach trailing 8-7 in the second game, Katie Roark served five straight points as part of the 10-point streak to give the Artists momentum for the rest of the match. Kellie Cramm had three kills. Sara Salem added two kills and two blocks during the rally.
“We figured we would be embarrassed if we didn’t come out aggressive in the second game,” Laguna Beach Coach Shawn Patchell said. “From there, everything was serving.”
Cramm led the Artists with 13 kills, while Laurelee Neptune added 10. Christy Kimmel had 17 kills to lead the Eagles (17-3).
