This week being Fire Prevention Week, the Fire Department is asking residents to put fresh batteries in their smoke detectors and to replace the devices if they are more than 10 years old. Garden Grove Fire Chief Cameron Phillips reports that 5,000 Americans die from fire each year. Smoke detectors, if installed on every level of the home, in every hallway and near all bedrooms, can reduce the risk of fire fatalities by 50%, Phillips said. Information: (714) 741-5624.
