Britain’s Emap, the world’s biggest publisher of consumer magazines, named Tom Moloney chief executive of Emap Petersen, completing a senior management reorganization of its U.S. unit. Moloney, formerly president and chief operating officer of the U.S. unit, replaces Chairman and Chief Executive Jim Dunning, who resigned, Emap said. Dunning, who remains a consultant to Emap Petersen, could not immediately be reached for comment. The change follows Emap’s announcement last week that advertising sales at Petersen were slower than anticipated in the first half of the year. The company also said that new activities in the U.S. “have underperformed relative to expectations.” An Emap spokesman said Dunning was not leaving due to Petersen’s performance. Dunning was part of a group, including Willis Stein & Partners, that bought the Los Angeles-based company in 1996 for $465 million. In January, Emap completed its $1.5-billion acquisition of Petersen, whose titles include Motor Trend, Hot Rod, Guns & Ammo and Teen.
