Latin America
* Tuesday: Day of the Race / Columbus Day; Amerindian and environmentalist marches, demonstrations possible against the legacy of European colonization in most Central and South American nations and Mexico.
Britain
* Nov. 15: Anniversary of signing of Anglo-Irish Agreement (1985); Protestant demonstrations possible in Northern Ireland.
Czech Republic
* Oct. 28: Czech National Day; demonstrations, possible violence between far right and anarchist groups.
Germany
* Nov. 9: Anniversary of fall of Berlin Wall (1989) and of Nazi destruction of synagogues (1938); left- and right-wing clashes likely, particularly in Berlin.
Japan
* Nov. 12: Anniversary of Emperor Akihito’s ascension to the throne (1990); left- and right-wing extremists may commit acts of violence.
Jordan
* Oct. 26: Anniversary of Israel-Jordan peace treaty (1994); protests by Islamist groups expected.
Libya
* Oct. 26: Anniversary of invasion by Italy (1911); 24-hour suspension of international communications links likely.
Nigeria
* Nov. 10: Anniversary of the execution of minority rights activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight fellow Ogonis (1996); Ogoni unrest around main oil center of Port Harcourt possible.
Peru
* Tuesday: Nationwide strike scheduled Nov. 4 on the anniversary of the formation of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement guerrilla group (1984); terrorists may mark the event with propaganda, possibly bombings.
Philippines
* Oct. 20: Anniversary of Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s landing at Leyte (1944). Recent protest of the planned resumption of U.S.-Philippines military exercises means the commemoration of the U.S. recapture of the Philippines may be disrupted by unrest.
