Steve McClain of Grace Brethren kicked a school-record 53-yard field goal in the Lancers’ 66-0 victory over Santa Monica Lighthouse Church in an eight-man game Saturday at Grace Brethren.
It was McClain’s first field-goal attempt of the season. Because eight-man games are played on an 80-yard field, McClain kicked the ball from his team’s 37-yard line.
The state record for longest field goal is 64 yards by Erik Affholter of Oak Park in 1982.
McClain, a sophomore in his second varsity season, has kicked the ball into the end zone on 23 of 38 kickoffs.
