Mexico Flooding Relief Effort Gets Into Gear

LOS ANGELES — Given what they said was a green light by Mexico, relief workers on Wednesday began efforts to aid victims of flooding there.
Operation USA announced it had begun collecting medical supplies and other aid that will be shipped to flood victims in southern Mexico.
“We’ve been waiting, and finally got the OK from Mexico that they will accept medical supplies and other forms of relief,” said Richard Walden of Operation USA.
In recent months, Operation USA has raised money and supplies to relieve the suffering of earthquake victims in Turkey and people displaced in Central America by Hurricane Mitch.
Walden said his organization wants to avoid mistakes of past relief efforts, which have seen tons of medicine and other relief supplies left in warehouses with no way to get it to victims of the disasters.
