Restoration work at Mission San Juan Capistrano’s Soldier’s Barrack is expected to be completed by spring 2000. The project, which cost more than $300,000, began in the spring of last year with restoration work on the southern half of the structure.
The structure’s roof was replaced and its walls and windows repaired. An art gallery is planned for this portion of the barracks. Materials inside the northern half of the structure will be removed to create a display of the life of Spanish soldiers in 1791.
