Kuehl, Knox and Health Care

* In your article on the Democratic primary race for state Senate between [Assembly members] Sheila Kuehl and Wally Knox (“Friendly Foes Meet in 1st Debate,” Oct. 8), you state that their views and voting records are nearly identical.

However, on one issue, their views and voting records are clearly on opposite sides. Sheila Kuehl has introduced legislation to raise the cap on noneconomic damages in medical malpractice suits. Wally Knox opposes and has voted against such legislation. We in the health care profession believe such legislation will ultimately raise health care costs and hurt patient care. Those in the health care profession should therefore find this issue the one that will determine their candidate.
