Splendor in the Sand

Morocco is back in vogue. American globe-trotters are rediscovering that the country they know mainly as the setting for the movie “Casablanca” abounds with romantic Moorish architecture, exotic street life and beautiful scenery.
And travelers to the ancient city of Marrakech will soon have the chance to discover Amanjena, the newest resort from the ritzy Singapore-based Amanresorts chain. Amanjena, which means “peaceful paradise” (aman is Sanskrit for “peaceful” and jena is Arabic for “paradise”) offers accommodations fit for a sultan. Scheduled to open in November, the resort is spread around an oasis of pools, palms and olive trees and surrounded by an 18-hole golf course. Each guest pavilion will have a king-size platform bed, an open fireplace, a marble soaking tub and a private courtyard with gazebo. Forget rocking the casbah, here’s a place to spend those Arabian nights.
