L.A. Loyola (4-2) vs. No. 2 Mater Dei (4-2)
7:30 TONIGHT SANTA ANA STADIUM
The last time these teams met, in 1996, the Southern Section Division I title was at stake. Mater Dei won that game, 17-10, at the Coliseum and won its second mythical national title. The stakes are much lower tonight and neither team has played like a section championship contender. Loyola Coach Steve Grady, whose team is coming off a 35-0 rout of Bellflower St. John Bosco, said he is simply looking for consistency. “We hope to do well and improve ourselves,” Grady said. “We’ve been struggling, we’re not the team we were in ’96. We’re still trying to find ourselves.”
