Re “Even for Clinton, City Is Unwilling to Foot the Bill,” Oct. 19: Hooray for Cincinnati! It’s about time someone challenged the political parties to pay their own way instead of stiffing taxpayers. Donations and matching funds are provided to pay for campaigns and fund-raising costs, and the parties should use that money to pay for their activities. If the Democratic National Committee invited the president to help raise money, it should foot the bill for his appearance and not expect someone else to pay.
The Cincinnati fathers should bill the Secret Service, since they are the ones who requested the assistance. The Treasury Department should then bill the DNC.
Let’s get the greedy hands of politicians out of our pockets wherever we can.
