As the general manager of what I think is one of the best coffee shops in the city, I was very disappointed that we were not mentioned in your article (“I’ll Have the Blue-Plate Special,” by Max Jacobson, Oct. 14).
We may not be the most trendy spot around, but if you are looking for great home-style cooking, a clean restaurant (we are on our fourth A from the health department), with great service from servers and managers who are eager to make their customers happy, you need to come and experience the Lamplighter Restaurant in Chatsworth.

You missed one very important and excellent Westside coffee shop: Mary & Robb’s Westwood Garden Cafe, 1453 Westwood Blvd., is an upscale coffee shop with good wholesome American food served for breakfast, lunch and early dinner. I can’t recommend it enough.

Take it from a pancake and French-toast worshiper of more than 45 years that those found at Du-Par’s are, at the most generous appraisal, barely average. Many coffee shops east of downtown also have griddles and can put the fare found at Du-par’s to shame. Try Marsten’s or Burger Continental in Pasadena, or maybe Pieloon in Downey.

The best Dutch baby is at the Original Pancake House in Redondo Beach. Try them and you’ll never go to Dinah’s.
