In the Vanguard men’s cross-country invitational:
Concordia runners take first and second--Oliver Mintzlaff and Fabio Mathias placed first and second in the men’s four-mile race at Fairview Park. Mintzlaff won in 20 minutes 11.75 seconds and Mathias finished in 20:39.17.
Host Vanguard placed sixth and Chapman ninth.
In the Vanguard women’s cross-country invitational:
Eagles take first--Concordia put four runners in the top 10 and won the team title. Tricia Mattson of Concordia won the 5,000 meter race in 18:45.44 at Fairview Park. Rachel Lafady was third, running 18:57.12, and Christy Ide (19:13.31) and Cara Rumble (19:37.03) finished sixth and 10th, respectively for Concordia. Vanguard’s Monica Landa (18:53.06) finished eight seconds behind Mattson in second.
Vanguard finished seventh followed by eighth-place U.S. International. Chapman finished 10th.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s water polo:
UC Santa Barbara 9, UC Irvine 2--Anthony Borasi had three goals, including a two-pointer, to lead Santa Barbara. Jeff Powers and Andy Coffman scored for UCI (7-10, 0-4).
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer:
Concordia 2, Point Loma 1--Freshman forward Molly Slane scored two first-half goals for the Eagles.
Biola 5, Hope International 0--Anna Yovino scored two goals and Biola (11-3, 4-2) outshot Hope International, 30-2. Hope International falls to 1-10, 0-6.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
Boise State 3, Cal State Fullerton 2--Megan Sabo had 19 kills and Jamie Ivers had 15 to lead the Titans (6-17, 2-8), who won the first two games before losing, 11-15, 5-15, 15-8, 15-7, 15-11.
