The Buena Park School District recently received a Golden Bell award from the California School Boards Assn. for a program developed by one of the district’s veteran teachers, Susan Kilpatrick.
Called A Matter of Values, the program won in the English/Language Arts/Reading category and was adopted by the district four years ago for children in kindergarten through third grade. The award will be presented to the district Dec. 11 in San Francisco.
“The program was created to help students understand the meaning of the eight adopted values--respect, responsibility, cooperation, honesty, compassion, perseverance, civic duty and integrity,” Kilpatrick said.
