Dole’s Good Works Were Trivialized

Elizabeth Dole has never been one of my favorites, but because she is a woman of considerable accomplishment and a declared candidate for president of the United States, I followed her with some interest. When she withdrew from the presidential race last week, I was saddened by it and by her summary that it was “all about money.”
In “Oh, the Indignity of It All” (Oct. 24), attributing Dole’s withdrawal to the indignity of having to campaign in an informal manner, with its references to her painted nails and coif, trivialized her journey, her contribution and her place in the history of this campaign.
