Despite opposition against sports-related developments at La Bonita Park, the city plans to go ahead with a refurbishing plan for the 23-acre park. After five hours of public comment and discussions, the five-member Planning Commission unanimously voted on Monday to approve the concept plan for La Bonita Park. Monday’s vote follows the Community Services Commission’s unanimous vote Oct. 13.
Drafted by a Glendale-based architectural landscaping firm, the $2-million design plan includes four new softball fields, a skate park, a garden and open passive space with greenbelts. The plan is expected to go before the City Council for fiscal review during the Nov. 15 meeting, said Roy Ramsland, the city’s senior planner. Any appeals against the plan will also be heard by the council.
