Cal Lutheran Claims Another SCIAC Title

Sally Jahraus had 15 digs and 11 kills to help Cal Lutheran clinch the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s volleyball title by beating La Verne, 15-8, 10-15, 13-15, 15-13, 15-13, Tuesday night at La Verne.
The Regals (16-9, 10-0 in conference play) notched their fifth SCIAC title in nine years with strong defensive play.
Cal Lutheran, which got 14 digs from Jamie Arnold, out-dug La Verne (12-7, 6-3), 74-48.
Alexandra Piff and Sara Fristad each had 13 kills for Cal Lutheran.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
San Fernando 5, Van Nuys 2--Sonia Rangel defeated Joanna Joo, 8-3, and Veasna Phao rallied from a 6-3 deficit to beat Jane Han for the Tigers in a Sunset Six League victory at El Cariso Park in Sylmar.
Claudia Perez and Valerie Mendoza won, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles and the No. 3 team of Nancy Huerta and Annette Mendoza won, 8-5, for the Tigers (11-0, 8-0), who clinched at least a tie for their first league title since the girls’ tennis program began in 1979.
Diana Friedland and Tinna Chung won singles matches for Van Nuys (7-4, 6-2), which San Fernando beat, 5-2, in the teams’ first meeting.
Harvard-Westlake 17, Chaminade 1--Alexandra Maclennan swept three sets by 6-0 scores at No. 3 singles for the Wolverines (11-2, 7-0) in a Mission League victory at Northridge Tennis Club.
Jessica Testwuide and Kym Jordan of Chaminade (9-3, 5-2) scored a 7-6 decision over Nicole Barshop and Shilpa Madhavan at No. 3 doubles.
Calabasas 16, Nordhoff 2--Erin Everly did not lose a game at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Kathy Habuki and Andrea Leewong improved to 45-0 in sets to help the Coyotes clinch their second consecutive Frontier League title with a victory at Calabasas.
Hart 12, Valencia 6--Cristina Cancio swept her three opponents and the Indians (5-9, 3-6) won all nine doubles sets to avenge an earlier loss to Valencia (10-7, 5-4) in a Foothill League match at Hart.
Simi Valley 11, Agoura 7--Brooke Borisoff lost only one game in three sets, but the Pioneers (13-4, 7-2) won at Rancho Simi Community Park to take over second place in the Marmonte League.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 3, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 0--Alix Rucinski assisted on Alia Khan’s goal in the 20th minute to help the Regals win their ninth consecutive Southern California Interscholastic Athletic Conference regular season championship at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Betsy Fisch and Nicole Imhof scored in the second half as Cal Lutheran (13-6, 10-1 in conference play) improved to 21-0 (18-0 in SCIAC matches) in the series against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-12, 5-6).
Oxnard 4, Hancock 0--Tenley Garcia, leading scorer in the Western State Conference, scored two goals and Priscilla Olsen had three assists for the Condors in a WSC Northern Division victory at Oxnard.
Canyons 2, Bakersfield 0--Lindsay Moser had one goal and one assist, and Jessica Gregg made three saves in her 14th shutout for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division game at Canyons.
The Cougars (15-2-1, 8-2-1) outshot Bakersfield (3-9-3, 2-7-2) by 21-3.
Ventura 2, Moorpark 1--Sarah Costello scored her 13th goal of the season and Alicia Garcia also scored as the Pirates (13-3-4, 9-0-2) won at Moorpark (9-5-1, 6-3-1).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Sylmar def. Kennedy, 15-12, 15-12, 15-6--Stephanie Cisneros had 16 kills, Ofelia Ramirez added 11 with eight digs and the Spartans (10-1, 8-0) won a Valley Mission League match at Sylmar.
Santa Paula def. Nordhoff, 15-10, 15-8, 10-15, 15-8--Gina Morgan had 33 digs, eight kills and 18 service points with one ace for the Cardinals in a Frontier League victory at Nordhoff.
Sarah Kolbeck had 14 kills, eight digs, five blocks and three aces for the Cardinals (12-2, 5-1), and Jenn Eastlake contributed seven kills, four blocks, 30 assists and 14 service points with four aces.
Highland d. Littlerock, 15-10, 11-15, 15-11, 17-15--Brynn Olsson had 17 kills and Lizille Jackson added 10 kills for the Bulldogs (13-3, 7-0), who won their 10th consecutive Golden League match at Highland.
San Marcos def. Buena, 15-3, 10-15, 15-8, 15-11--Krystal McFarland had 16 kills but the Bulldogs (11-6, 5-4) lost a Channel League match at Buena.
Grace Brethren def. L.A. Lutheran, 15-5, 15-8, 15-6--Samantha Womack had eight aces and the Lancers (14-1, 10-0) won a Heritage League match at Grace Brethren.
Simi Valley def. Agoura, 15-7, 15-12, 15-12--Elise Metcalf had 11 kills and the Pioneers (4-12, 2-7) won a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley.
La Reina def. Fillmore, 15-0, 15-1, 15-2--Middle blocker Jennifer Ryan had eight kills with five aces and the Regents (16-0, 7-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, won a Tri-Valley League match.
