15 Injured in Attack on Serbian Convoy

Ethnic Albanians attacked a convoy of 155 Serbs trying to leave Kosovo under NATO escort, setting cars on fire and stoning the Serbs’ vehicles, witnesses and U.N. officials said. At least 15 people were injured and at least 15 cars were burned in the attack, which occurred in the western town of Pec. Earlier reports that four Serbs were missing proved unfounded, but the incident was certain to inflame the already seething tensions between the ethnic Albanian majority and the dwindling Serbian community in Kosovo, a province of Serbia, Yugoslavia’s main republic. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization-led peacekeeping force said all but the 34 occupants of the destroyed vehicles continued their journey from Orahovac to the Yugoslav republic of Montenegro.
