Bob Cherng, a student at Troy High School in Fullerton, has been selected as one of nine to compete in the southwest region of the Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology competition.
Cherng will compete Nov. 20 in the regional finals at the University of Texas at Austin, where he will present an independent research project in chemistry to a panel of judges. The regional winner will receive a $20,000 award to be applied to undergraduate or graduate education.
The winners of the six regional competitions will advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 4 and compete for a top individual scholarship of $100,000. There is also a team competition.
