Cameron Robinson kicked a 28-yard field goal through a swirling wind with 16 seconds to play, lifting Canyon High over Burroughs, 23-20, in a Foothill League game Friday night at Canyon.
Ricky Galvan, who had six sacks, set up the field goal by sacking and stripping the ball from Burroughs’ Joe Kroells, whose fumble was recovered by the Cowboys at the Burroughs 18-yard line with 27 seconds left.
Canyon (3-4, 2-1 in league play) ran two plays before bringing in Robinson.
Burroughs (2-6, 0-3) led, 20-14, after three quarters thanks to fullback Randy Beckmann.
Despite battling a case of food poisoning that sidelined him for portions of the game, Beckmann scored touchdowns on a 25-yard pass from Kroells and a six-yard run, both in the second quarter.
Canyon tied the score, 20-20, on wingback Jimmy Perry’s 28-yard touchdown run with 1:53 to play. Robinson’s extra-point attempt was blocked by Beckmann.
Perry also had touchdown runs of six and 28 yards, finishing with 170 yards rushing in 26 carries.
Wingback Mark Barr rushed for 100 yards in 15 carries for the Cowboys in his first game since being called up from the junior varsity.
