Collectors Universe Inc., which auctions collectibles such as coins and memorabilia, said Tuesday that it hopes to raise as much as $46 million in an initial public offering. The Santa Ana company, created in February by the combination of five companies in the collectibles and auction industries, already faces a crowded field with online competitors such as EBay Inc. and Yahoo Inc. and traditional auction houses such as Sotheby’s Inc.
