Gingrich, Wife Divide Property

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his estranged wife have reached agreement on division of income and assets in advance of their pending divorce, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution said. Marianne Gingrich filed papers in August accusing Gingrich, who resigned from Congress after Republicans lost seats in the November 1998 election, of attempting to transfer assets that the couple held jointly before filing for divorce. Gingrich responded with a court filing accusing his wife of depleting “a substantial portion” of their joint assets. The New York Post reported in August that Gingrich had a romantic relationship with a 33-year-old congressional aide.
