7 TONIGHT VALENCIA HIGH
Esperanza, which averaged a school-record 38.4 points a game in 1998, felt the effects of replacing eight offensive starters in a 14-3 loss to Servite last week. The Aztecs gained only 158 yards, 14 rushing. Defensively, they limited Servite to one touchdown; the other came on a fumble recovery. The defense will be tested by San Clemente’s deceptive Fly offense. James Allen got the bulk of the carries in a 19-3 victory over Lynwood last week, rushing for 166 of the Tritons’ 250 yards. In a tight game, which this figures to be, Esperanza has the advantage of kicker Benny Mastropaolo, who has 45-yard range.
