McNair Questionable for Sunday’s Game

Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair’s back problems persisted and the team listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game against Cleveland.

McNair left practice early to undergo tests.

“He will probably be a game-time decision,” Coach Jeff Fisher said. “He was much better [Friday] morning than he was [Thursday], but then he tightened up again.”

Wide receiver Rod Smith, injured in the Denver Broncos’ season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins, was back on the practice field and could return for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Smith, who suffered a strained right groin Monday, participated in passing drills but did not take part in scrimmage situations.

Seattle quarterback Jon Kitna might not play Sunday against the Chicago Bears because of an injured big toe on his right foot.

Kitna was listed as questionable and didn’t practice Friday, contrary to head Coach Mike Holmgren’s expectations the day before.

Backup Glenn Foley has been running the offense in practice and will be the quarterback Sunday if Kitna can’t play.

The Indianapolis Colts may have to play the New England Patriots on Sunday at Foxboro, Mass., without starting right cornerback Tyrone Poole, Coach Jim Mora said.

Poole has been bothered by a thigh bruise for several weeks. While the injury was not considered serious enough to force him from the starting lineup, Mora said his status for Sunday’s game is questionable.

A decision on his status will be made Sunday, Mora said.
