Overshadowing the Character Issue

The increasing emphasis that employers are placing on academic performance and degree status has more far-reaching ramifications than whether or not a teenager has the “qualifications” for flipping hamburgers at McDonald’s [“More Employers Are Checking High School Records Before Hiring,” Aug. 29].
It also shows the greatly diminishing value that companies and organizations now place on qualities such as hard work, conscientiousness, dedication, loyalty and trustworthiness.
